Dr. Wormer's educational journey began at Miami University of Ohio with an undergraduate degree in Microbiology, followed by his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University. His postgraduate studies brought him to Charlotte, NC, where he completed a six-year general surgery residency with a research fellowship at Atrium Health - Carolinas Medical Center. Here, he found a passion for the complexity and creativity found in plastic surgery, culminating in a three-year fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. After nine years of surgical training, he was drawn back to Charlotte to begin his career, joining Dr. James Appel, with whom they have grown a flourishing practice and partnership.
Dr. Wormer holds dual board certification in plastic surgery and general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He holds active memberships in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the North Carolina Society of Plastic Surgeons. He serves as an adjunct assistant professor of surgery for the University of North Carolina and has published over 35 peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters.
