What is our surgical technique?
Surgical breast reduction is an outpatient treatment and is performed with general anesthesia. The timing of surgery is dependent upon various factors, including the complexity of the incision, the general surgical technique, and finally, the amount of tissue removal needed. The areola and nipple area repositioning is also a factor. In most cases, liposuction is incorporated for tissue and fat reduction to reduce the breast size. During the private consultation, all of these factors are addressed with your surgeon. Potential scarring is also carefully discussed as it is common to occur. However, modern methods have led to a decrease in the visibility of scarring. Based on the complexity of the size and overall reduction, either an anchor or a straight line (vertical) incision will be incorporated. Breast fat and tissue will then be removed, and the remaining tissue and skin will be pulled and lifted.
Breast lift surgery takes usually 2 – 4 hours and is performed using general anesthesia. The timeframe of this procedure depends on the complexity of breast ptosis. The method used for mastopexy surgery generally falls into two categories — the technique is defined by the type of the incision. The inverted-T (known as an anchor) and the vertical incisions are the most used methods. Once the incision is made, any loose, unhealthy skin is excised along with breast tissue and fat that is not needed. The skin is then tightened and the breasts are lifted so they appear healthy. In most situations, the size of the areola is reconstructed and reduced to be symmetric with the new placement and shape of the breast. At this point, an implant or a fat transfer can be inserted within the breast if this was discussed with Dr. Appel or Dr. Wormer prior to surgery. If the lift is the only technique being performed and if breast fullness and shape are a concern, augmentation surgery with implants can be done at a later date.

If I could give more than 5 stars i absolutely would! I have had nothing but amazing experiences each and every time. Both dr Appel and his office ladies are so kind and helpful. I’ve had 2 surgeries so far with Dr Appel and the last one was at his new office surgery suites and I must say it was wonderful, of course no one loves surgery but his office was so peaceful and clean and just calming everyone was so patient and kind and no one rushed and the nurse in the operating room was so sweet and kind as well as the ladies who were in the recovery room with me. This was the most amazing experience and nothing at all like having a surgery in a hospital. Also no matter what time both Dr Appel and his staff are always there to help or answer any questions or concerns and Dr Appel even made time to call and check on me that night after surgery a few times just to make sure I was okay. He also takes his time with his patients and really listens to them, I struggle with horrible body dysmorphia and he always makes me feel heard and does everything in his power to help his patients and he is honest as well. His work is amazing and I’ve never felt more confident in my own skin. I can say Dr Appel and his office ladies are stuck with me I’m a patient for life and I can’t say enough amazing things about them! ❤️
