What is Breast Implant Removal?
After undergoing a breast augmentation to enhance the size and contour of the breasts, a few women may decide to get them taken out for a variety of factors. At Appel Wormer Esthetics in Charlotte, NC, Dr. James Appel consults with patients who wish to remove their breast implants. In some cases, a breast lift might be required following implant removal based upon the size of the implants and how much your skin stretched. A lift can often help reduce sagging or excess skin, which can remain after an implant removal. If you're wishing to go back to your previous breast size, breast implant removal surgery along with a breast lift may create beautiful results to restore the natural look and texture of your breasts.
How is Breast Implant Removal Performed?
For your breast implant removal procedure, the implants are taken out and scar tissue may also have to be eliminated. Scar tissue is typical after receiving implants and will need to be removed if it's affecting the shape of the breast or causing pain. After the implants are removed, Dr. Appel may conduct a breast lift, fat transfer, or possibly both depending on what was decided upon during your consultation. There are also a number of options to restore volume after an implant removal to improve the shape of the breast.
What Are the Benefits of Breast Implant Removal?
Breast implant removal surgery done by Dr. Appel could help you with finding a more natural look and higher degree of safety with quite a few great benefits, some of which are:
- Makes mammograms less obstructed and more readable
- Takes care of damaged implants
- Lets you reevaluate implant volume or totally remove them

- Relieves painful scarring
- Resolves capsular contracture and adjacent pain
- Recovery time is short
- Increases ease of movement and high-impact activity
- Resolves neck and back discomfort
- No need for replacing implants every 10 – 15 years
Breast Implant Removal Reviews
Dr Appel & his staff are SO Wonderful. I’m 3 months post-op from a full breast implant removal/lift, medial thigh lift/ thigh lipo & fixing “dog ears” from an older TT. From the moment I consulted with Dr Appel I felt he truly heard & cared about my concerns & understood my expectations. I had minimal pain coming out of surgery. Literally off strong pain meds within a couple days. No bruising at all on my chest. I can say, I haven’t felt this good since my early 20’s!!! My scars look great & already so light in color.I selected Dr Appel due to his medical skillset & expertise in handling breast cancer patients & reconstruction (not that I have breast cancer) but I knew right away I would be in great hands. His bedside manner is truly so kind. From waking up right out of surgery he has been by my side answering all my questions & concerns. His compassionate nature, communication & expertise are exactly what I needed during this journey & for my healing. I’m so thankful for him.I couldn’t be any happier with my decision to select Dr Appel to work on me. My results are just confirmation I made the best choice for myself. Thank you beyond words, Dr Appel. You are a true gem!

Am I A Candidate for Breast Implant Removal?
Breast implant removal can be used to correct an array of issues a patient might experience after a breast augmentation, including scar tissue (capsular contracture), implant malfunction, and unhappiness with the breast implants. Sometimes, women might simply prefer their original breast and want to restore their natural appearance. Regardless of the reason, breast augmentation removal may function to counteract the outcomes of a breast augmentation and if combined with a breast lift, may reestablish a natural, desirable aesthetic appearance. Before your surgery, Dr. Appel will talk with you about your wanted look for your breasts and how to reach it.

What Can I Expect After Breast Implant Removal?
The recovery period will vary for every patient depending on the reconstruction needed following the procedure. After the surgery, Dr. Appel will deliver post-procedure directions and might suggest additional procedures to help reduce scarring. For the first two or three weeks, patients will experience swelling and bruising and must restrict strenuous exercise until otherwise permitted. However, patients are encouraged to stand and gradually move around since it will help with blood circulation. Optimal results can normally be seen roughly 4 – 6 months after the procedure.
